It could be 2018 before Riverside County Supervisors iron out final regulations regarding the growing and sale of marijuana in unincorporated areas.
Three county ordinances currently weave a complex, albeit temporary, policy regarding marijuana sale, use and distribution in unincorporated areas like Thousand Palms, Sky Valley and Bermuda Dunes.
Medical marijuana users can grow 2 dozen marijuana plants on their own property as long as it is for their own private use, not a commercial venture.
State law also allows anyone 21 or older to grow 6 plants at home for their own use.
Eventually the county will put together final regulations that comply with new state laws on marijuana.
But pot afficianados who don’t want to wait for the county to formulate a concrete policy, have plenty of choices in the Coachella Valley already, with pots shops operating in Palm Springs, Desert Hot Springs, Cathedral City and Coachella.
Other cities like Palm Desert, are still weighing their options.
