Are "we" not like "them"?

What is this obsession we seem to have about classifying people who have done something wrong, evil, destructive, misguided, and horrific? It seems so necessary to find some box we can put them in that makes them "other" -- they can't possibly be like "us"! Or, surely, we can't be like them ... can we?
Congress flies while Head Start kids need bootstraps? What a world!

The people of Boston cheer police, Fox News debates the death penalty, ACLU decries suspension of Miranda rights, friends of the 19-year old "terrorist" offer to speak on his behalf, and Republicans filibuster gun registration. What a week!
Frankly, I'm more intrigued about the difference between "terrorism" and "terrorist." Was Adam Lanza also engaging in terrorism? Was he therefore a terrorist???

"Plan B" and Obama's Budget

Thank goodness for federal judges who are above politics, like the one who just overturned the restriction on "Plan B" contraception for ALL young women -- without a prescription or parental involvement. C'mon, in your heart you know that doesn't "cause" promiscuity!
Finally, a budget proposal from the President that would reduce the deficit, invest in programs that can make a real difference, and attempt to appeal to Republicans for a "grand bargain" that would allow us to focus on other issues: guns, immigration, taking over both houses of Congress with filibuster-proof majorities (oops, did I say that out loud?).
